You've succeded where I fialed. The diffuse light on the top luminaire is from glowing surfaces? I assume?

Bravo... a very soft and "real world" look!

i agree with Bish, the lighting effect of the 1st image is powerful !!! very realistic at the same time.

Briana,

Thanks for reminding me to send comments. You've been approaching every assignment with thought and good visual judgment.

I really like your image loft+view2.jpg where you got the image to glow. The form is very gentle and elegant with an interesting transition from round to square. I like the way you strongly created the illusion of a glowing fixture.
Consider how you can tell the story about the lamp with both words and pictures. If you add even a paragraph describing how you made the form and why, it gives us a way to get involved with the image. On the views, watch small things such as the framing and alignment: you almost have the stem aligned with the corner of the room and you almost have the floor cropped out of the photo. Perhaps you would want to trim the stem down and add a little cap at the end? Having some small structures that are dark in silhouette could be a nice contrast and give some "reality".
If you took your view from below or a little higher up or included a reflected ceiling plan and section, we'd understand the complexity of the forms better. I could also see putting the fixture above a kitchen table and chairs in a domestic scene, with a nice wall paper pattern to give it context.

The swiss cheese lamp is a good demonstration of the difference tool. I could imagine it would work better as a lighting fixture if you lined it with a white glowing cylinder and/or made the blue layer translucent. Otherwise, the playful shadows would work only in a disco environment where you want the visual activity. Actually it would be fun to see it rotate and change the room like a mirror ball!
Again, your simulation is very fun, with a beautiful glow. To get a more realistic effect, the brightness inside the fixture needs to be pumped up much more, so the interior surfaces are almost hard to look at. For more "reality, you need to think about how there would be wires supports from the central stem to the shade - these could be a decorative aspect.

Nice job.
